🧼 How I Keep My House (Mostly) Clean With Pets

Let’s be real—living with pets means living with fur, paw prints, and the occasional “What’s that smell?” moment. But even with two Chihuahuas and a curious cat running the place, I’ve found ways to keep my home clean, cozy, and under control.

Here are my real-world strategies for staying on top of it:

  • Daily mini-tidies: I do 10–15 minutes of evening clean-up—sweeping fur bunnies, wiping down counters, and finishing the dishes I promised myself I’d do earlier.

  • Washable everything: I use blankets, couch covers, rugs, and even pet beds that can be easily thrown in the washer and dryer. If it can’t be washed, it probably doesn’t survive long in this house.

  • Lint rollers in every room: Seriously. And sometimes in my car. Fur happens.

  • Pet-safe cleaning products: I stick to non-toxic basics like vinegar and baking soda, especially around food areas, napping spots, and where Mama likes to dramatically sprawl.

  • Brush regularly = less fur flying: I try to keep up with brushing sessions (which turn into cuddle time), especially during shedding seasons.

  • Scent control, naturally: I air out the house daily and use baking soda in soft surfaces. When needed, I diffuse a little pet-safe essential oil for a fresh but subtle scent.

  • They share everything—so I clean everything: No designated zones here. Beds, blankets, water bowls, and even favorite spots on the couch get rotated and cleaned often because they’re shared by all three.

  • Keep supplies easy to grab: Paper towels, enzymatic cleaner, and that trusty lint roller are always within arm’s reach. It makes quick clean-ups actually quick.

And when life gets extra hectic, I remind myself: it’s not about perfection—it’s about comfort, livability, and a little grace for the paw prints on the floor. A tidy home with pets isn’t about perfection—it’s about systems that work with your lifestyle, not against it.

Need help staying on top of your own fur-filled household? I offer local laundry, light cleaning, and organizing support—because no one should have to go it alone (especially with pets as roommates).
